Kirovohrad region has one of the largest areas of agricultural land - more than 2.0 million hectares (ranked 7th in Ukraine with almost 5% of Ukraine's agricultural land), of which 1.8 million hectares is arable land. In most cases, these are high-quality black earths that have a thick, organic-rich humus layer, which gradually changes into the soil-forming rock.

For the degree of soils natural fertility, Kirovohrad region ranks 4th in Ukraine. Kirovohrad Region's soils have been given 67 points on a 100-point quality scale.
The extensive systemof hard-surface roads, railway lines, short distances to ports on the Black sea and the Dnieper river, the functioning of Svitlovodsk River Terminal, the presence of several large agricultural processing companies and availability of sufficient labour resources - all this creates opportunities for the intensive growth of agricultural production and manufacture of healthy organic foodstuffs in large quantities.
The Svitlovodsk River Terminal with a storage capacity of 94 thousand tonnes of grain won the 2013 New Terminal and 2013 Golden Terminal of the National Maritime Rating.

The region produces 4.7% of the gross agricultural output of Ukraine (ranked 8th in Ukraine) and has 35 agricultural service cooperatives, including 2 grain-growing, 14 dairy, 3 fruit-and vegetables and 16 diversified cooperatives.
Kirovohrad State Agricultural Experimental Station of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine
This is a research institution having more than 100 years experience of R&D activities in the region.
The Experimental Station owns 24 intellectual property items, including 7 soybean varieties, 6 varieties of spring barley, 5 varieties of sainfoin, 1 veriatyt of coriander, 1 hybrid variety of corn, 2 types of beef and dairy breeds of cattle (Central regional stud type of Ukrainian Red dairy breed and Znamianskyi intra-breed type of Polissia beef breed of cattle); 2 inventions of substrate compactor.
The institution has completed more than 80 R&D projects that are now being implemented in production.
Its achievements in the spheres of soil management, crop production, animal husbandry, mechanisation and agricultural economics are implemented in the agricultural companies of various forms of ownership in Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kherson, Poltava, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr and Luhansk regions.
The institution was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Certificate of Honour of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honorary Sign "Honour and Glory of Kirovohrad Region"; in 2016, for the promotion of agricultural science, development and improvement of technologies, and high performance indicators, Kirovohrad State Agricultural Academy of NAAS was awarded the Winner's Diploma of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences in the category "Leader of the Agro-Industrial Complex of Ukraine - 2016".
An important project for the region is the International Agricultural Exhibition "Agroexpo", which is recognized as the largest agricultural exhibition in Ukraine. Its area is almost 90 thousand m²; the exhibitors include both Ukrainian and foreign companies from many countries of the world.

In 2016, the Exhibition was visited by more than 20000 persons from all over Ukraine.
The "Central Ukrainian Investment Day" International Investment Forum is held as part of the Exhibition.
